Eskan
I visited Eskan Restaurant after their recent renovation, which gave the place thumbs up face-
lift. Never-the less, it still looks like a cafeteria type of place and you get to serve yourself. The
main attraction is their fantastic sandwiches.
They have open kitchen, which always shows the owner’s confidence in how clean and well
prepared they are in serving quality food. All employees are wearing very crispy clean uniforms
just like the airline attendance, and the customer service resembles the service you get at the
airlines as well (impersonal yet efficient).
They do offer take away service but the hot sandwiches and main dishes taste much better
when served hot out of the kitchen. They have a large selection of food choices from seafood,
poultry, meat, and Ox Tongue. However, if you are an Ox Tongue lover like I am, read my next
month review about a place that serves the best Tongue sandwiches you ever had.
Although the menu does not give a price list for some unknown reason, the most expensive
dish is no more than 10000 Toman ($9.50 or so). They are open from 12 noon until 10 in the
evening. I would recommend Eskan to people who just want to eat good food fast and go
home.

Bix
Bix is a little baby sister of Monsoon & Boulevard restaurant in Tehran, which
opened nearly a year ago in Gandhi Shopping Center. Bix is a perfect example of
fine dinning on a shoestring. This restaurant has well trained staff that gives an
old fashion high quality service to their clients, which is rare in Tehran’s
Restaurant dinning experience now and days. They have a very relaxed
atmosphere to chill out with superb choices of music, while they feed you
scrumptious food.
Bix menu offers a variety of tasty California cuisine in a creative arrangement on
your plate. What is California Cuisine you may ask? Well, it is a California (USA)
version of the global food recipes renamed, but cooked healthier and not so
heavy to digest.
Since I could not eat everything on the menu in one visit, I went back a few times
to Bix. I have concluded that whatever you pick out of the menu, you could not
regret your choice. However, I do have one suggestion for people who do not
care for hot & spicy food, which is not to order the Pan seared pepper Steak.
That dish will make your head explode. Their prices run some where between
3,800 Toman to 11,800 Toman, which is about $3 to $11 per dish. However, you
do get loads of food on your plate so you can share a plate with a friend if you
are not too hungry. Bix is open for lunch from 12noon till 3 in the afternoon and
dinner from 7:30 in the evening till 11at night.
As a person that enjoys dinning in a restaurant, I appreciated the fact that they
do not rush you out of the place if you are having a good time. Bix is highly
recommended for getting into a good mood if you are in need of one. It cheers
me up every time! You do have to call for reservations in advance.

Charmiz
We all know the College Square pretty well. It is one of the most recognized and important
squares within the city centre which is surrounded by many scientific and cultural
organizations. An eventful place we visit every once in a while to check out what is new. And
this is where Charmiz Restaurant is located.
Charmiz is a small restaurant that opened its door in the beginning of February 2008 in Hafez
Street. Rezvaneh is the manager and chef of this restaurant and serves vegetarian spaghetti.
The restaurant has a good ambiance. There are 4 tables for two to four people each and
simple wooden chairs are creatively set around. With a pleasant navy blue color to the walls,
the overall atmosphere is inviting, friendly and cozy.
As the restaurant is small in size, Rezvaneh runs it all by herself. And it doesn’t take much time
before your spaghetti or pasta is ready on your table for you. The food is delicious and cheap
and student budget friendly. The restaurant is open from 11:30am to 10pm non-stop and
according to Rezvaneh, if anyone comes at 4pm and orders lunch; she is more than happy to
serve. So for those who work or study near the area or those who arrive there at later hours
and after being stuck in heavy traffic, a home quality food that they can either eat there or take
away is standing by.
Other than its unique location, the vegetarian food is also of importance as there are not many
places where a vegetarian can be sure of the food hygiene and its quality. Issues concerning
meat drive many non-vegetarians to rather eat vegetarian food outside of home.
Rezvaneh’s upbeat spirit and down to earth personality, and her tirelessness and amazing
talent in serving delicious and scrumptious food from very simple ingredients, impresses
everyone and those who go there recommend it to their friends. Many might know her from
CAFÉ 78. Her prices are reasonable, ranging from 1400 to 1900(Toman). The restaurant’s
organized schedule and suitable working hours is in harmony with its busy cultural and
economical surrounding.
Charmiz, with its small four tables is an atmosphere full of joy and relaxation especially for
those who had a hectic day and are looking for a peaceful spot to have a nice meal. It is hard
to imagine finding peace within one of the city’s busiest squares but if you try Charmiz, you
might change your mind. So if you are up for a cheap tasty pasta in college square, Charmiz is
ready and waiting for you.

Buono Pizzeria
Pizza is one of the world’s most popular foods, served on every continent. People think of pizza
as “Italian food,” but pizza often takes on the flavors of the country in which it is prepared,
sometimes abandoning pizza’s roots and reflecting its’ residents’ palates. For example,
American pizzas tend to be larger and more filling, while Nordic chefs sometimes substitute
locally popular Emmental cheese for mozzarella. Restaurants in some countries prepare
pizzas with the philosophy that any Italian cheese will do, so you may get a pizza with
provolone in Mexico.
It all depends on what you want. There are different types of restaurants. Many restaurants in
Tehran deliver high fat pizzas with huge portions, thick crust, and lots of cheese. In contrast,
this pizzeria delivers a thinner crust with fresh high quality ingredients. Personally, I prefer
fresh mushrooms to canned ones and I prefer a pizza served without a thick layer of oil / fat on
top of it. I have not found a better place for pizza in Tehran. Buono Pizzeria is clearly my top
choice. It has a warm ambiance that is apparent as soon as you walk in the door - where a
host will greet you with a smile and then serve you some fantastic pizza in no time at all.
